desc: this is a play i started working on because i just felt the need to make a play one day. its a new experience. anyhow, i tried to come up with a good plot, but as i said in vagabond, i really suck at dialogue. i just can't get voice to work. plus a lot of the background is left to the reader's imagination.
plot summary: based in a futuristic medievil setting. a guy wakes up after a battle and he has amnesia. he finds out he is the son to a royal family and that they were fighting a rebel group trying to take over the government. blah blah blah, fights and realizations, lies and more lies, attempts at plot twists, all that fun stuff. i'm trying to make it better...

Act 1 Scene 1
Acts of Overconfidence
JYCE/Warriors/MIKEN

Warriors fight in background

JYCE is attacking a group of enemies.
He is a young man in his late teens. Thin face and streaked brown, black, and golden hair that runs down all sides of his head. He has an unmistakable scar directly across his left cheek.

Another warrior, MIKEN, a little younger, is fighting in another group nearby

MIKEN: There's too many! We need to retreat!

JYCE ignores MIKEN and charges through the enemies in his half metal, half tough cloth, suit of armor and a long sword with a gap in the middle making it look like two swords combined at the tip

MIKEN: Damn. He never listens. That bastard is going to kill himself!

MIKEN runs after JYCE trying to get to him and take him back

JYCE amazingly runs up to the front of a giant fortress, shaped like the stump of a tree with an inner circle that looked like a spiderweb being pulled from the middle up to the sky, and starts to climb up the outer wall.

MIKEN: Jyce! What the hell do you think you’re doing?! We must stay together!

JYCE: I'll be alright, I’ll meet you back at the rendev-

A sudden avalance of falling rocks tumble over the wall sending JYCE down the the ground knocking him out.

Miken: DAMN IT! JYCE!

Army swarms over MIKEN and JYCE
Scene fades out.

Act 1 Scene 2
Awake my Son
JYCE/CIELQUE/SIRIP

JYCE sits up abruptly in a bed and holds head in hand.

A tall slender woman dressed in a white robe sitting on the bed holds his shoulder. She is wearing a crest on her right shoulder that looks like a wolf looking up from a freshly made kill to ward off any stranger.

SIRIP: Jyce?! Good morning! I thought you'd never wake up. You worried me so much!

JYCE looks up dazed and confused

He looks around the platinum colored room with one large window lighting up the scene. A hologram of a green flower is projected out of a slide-out table on the left of the bed he’s sitting in.

JYCE: Who...where, am I? I... I recall the sky, falling away and then a swarm of moving... black, then complete darkness.

SIRIP moves her hand to his cheek.

SIRIP: Please rest, you were in a battle and lost consciousness. I wish you didn’t have to get involved in these wars, but you are safe now. Unfortunately it seems you have lost your memory like the doctor predicted. This is horrible... Well, we must move on. Your name is Jyce. I am your mother, and your father is on his way. He should be able to explain more once he gets here.

CIELQUE, A fat jolly man, enters the automatic sliding door wearing an outfit made of furs and the same crest of the Hiyeten on his right shoulder

Cielque: Jyce my boy! Glad to see you awake!

Sirip: He doesn't know you dear, he's gotten amnesia like Dr. Kiop said.

Cielque: Well that’s dreadful, but it can be fixed easily! Lets see... well. You are the prince of the royal family of Hiyeten. I am your father, Cielque, and your mother here is Sirip.

Jyce: I, I don't remember anything.

Sirip: Don't worry, everything will come back eventually.

Cielque: And as the brave commander of the army, you have lead your men into victory every time.
Scenes of him fighting (blurred) appear
For years the government had lasted in peace, but recently a terrorist group without reason has rebeled againsted our rule. Now, in political turmoil, you lead our faithful people to victory against this enemy. We are the hand of justice.

Jyce: Wait... I remember a flat glassy object, almost like the edge of a crystal except almost glowing in a sense...

Cielque’s eyebrows make an odd expression as if he’s midway through sneezing

Cielque: So Dr. Kiop was wrong, you haven't lost all of your memory... Well, there is much work to do around here. How about we first visit doctor before you do anything that might endanger your health.

Sirip: But first you must rest some more; regain your energy. I will see to it that your every need is taken care off. For now we regretfully must leave on account of business. I hope you feel better dear!

Sirip and Cielque walk out while Jyce stares up at the blank ceiling and wonders

(act 1:scene 3-dr kiop)
(characters: Jyce, Cielque, Sirip, Dr. Kiop, Robossistant)
Jyce walks through an automatic door into a room lit up with hard lights and surrounded by computer equipment. An android is working on some odd experiment in the back of the room.
An old man with the look of many years grown into his face and the wrinkles of one two many suprises etched into his forehead approaches Jyce
Dr. Kiop: Ah Jyce, I expected you would come here some time or another. Welcome to my laboritory. I suppose you would like to know more about what happened.
Jyce: Yes, please.
Dr. Kiop: Well, to start out I will explain to you more detail about who you are and what has happened. The royal family of Hiyeten has exhisted for... about 700 years now. They rule with peace and generosity. The people love them and are loyal.
Robossistant: Deeep Gee Bee Nip
Jyce: What?
Dr. Kiop: Oh thats Robossistant. He talks in a computer code language that takes a long time to learn. As I was saying, the Hiyeten are a peaceful kingdom, but there always are those who rebel. Five years ago a group named Mandate's Revenge. They oppose the Hiyeten for no reason at all. You see, people will always feel the need to rebel. Even when there is no good reason too. These terrorist have gained support from outside influences and have grown in force. Now the Hiyeten became concerned and decided that they needed to destroy this evil. But by the time they decided this, it was too late, the force had grown too large. And up to present day they are still fighting. You, the son of the king and queen, are trained in all forms of combat and fight to defend your family's kingdom. But in a recent battle you were knocked unconcious when falling off a building. This is the cause of your amnesia. Now we are trying to defend ourselves untill you are fully recovered from your injuries and can fight again. Follow me.
Jyce and Kiop walk over to a table with an electronic display showing a city
Dr. Kiop: This is the Hiyeten empire. There have been bombings and attacks in these sections.
Kiop points to a few sections on the map
Dr. Kiop: As you can see, the Mandate's Revenge is very religious. They have focused their attacks away from the churches. We might have to use this to our advantage.
Jyce: It's odd. I can't remember anything what-so-ever. Not even my religion. I know what words I'm speaking and can understand what you are saying, but everything I am has just disappeared.
Dr. Kiop: Yes, I know. I realized this when you were brought into my lab. You have one of the worse known amnesia cases known to man. It seems that the only thing that you should remember is the basic words that you use everyday. It's a marvel that you even survived the fall. Don't be suprised if some people call you a ghost, rumor has it that you've been brought back from the dead. But thats all false as you can guess. Now what is interesting is that you remembered the crystal...
Jyce: Yes, the crystal like object that was glowing. What is it?
Dr. Kiop: I don't know. All we know about the crystal is that it is in the Mandate's Revenge's possesion and they use it for evil purposes.
Cielque walks in
Cielque: I see we've been doing some memory research, heh heh heh. Do you understand our situation, son?
Jyce: I guess so. But why would a terrorist group attack for no reason?
Cielque: Actually we have been getting demands to release dangerous criminals from prison. I guess they want to take over land and power just like an enemy country.
Jyce: I don't quite understand. Do they have a reason to become a country?
Cielque: Why should they have a reason? What individual would not like to have power over an entire country? I think you lost quite too much memory. You'll learn.
Sirip pokes her head inside the room
Sirip: Dinner!
--

(act 1:scene 4-dinner)
(characters: Jyce, Cielque, Sirip, Attendants)
Jyce, Cielque, and Sirip sit around a rectangle table while attendant androids are serving them
The room is quiet and Jyce thinks the days activities over in his mind.
Jyce: Ok, I want to know what's going on!
Cielque and Sirip look at him, then at each other hesitating.
Sirip: Jyce, what do you mean?
Jyce: Even if I do have amnesia, I can tell you are not really my parents. It just doesn't feel right.
Cielque: Jyce...
Cielque dismisses guards and attendants
Sirip: You see Jyce, we-
Cielque: Are your adopted parents. You see, Sirip is incapable of birth, so we needed an heir to the throne. You were the closes blood relative and by coincidence you were an orphan. Since you grew up with us, I guess you did not know how real parents acted and took it for granted, but now since you have this terrible case of amnesia, maybe it is more obvious.
Jyce looks down at his food
Sirip: Even so, we still are your parents and we will never let anything happen to you.
Jyce:..........One more thing. About this scar.
Jyce points to his right cheek
Cielque: Ah, yes. Well, you were in a battle with one of the leaders of the terrorist group and he sliced you by using a hidden knife in his sleeve...
The rest of dinner is silent

(act 2:scene 1-training)
(characters: Jyce, Neth, Commander, Soldiers)
Jyce is in a training camp near the outer limits of the castle. Soldiers, Jyce, and Neth are in formation in front of the commander.
Soldiers: YES SIR.
Commander: Now, Neth. If an enemy comes at you like so,
The commander demonstrates swinging his sword side to side while running towards the person next to Jyce.
Commander: What do you do?
Neth: Simple.
Neth simply grabs the commander's sword in his bare hand. Neth does not start bleeding.
Commander: Very nice, but not what I'm looking for. Anyone else have any ideas?
Jyce: Kick the weapon from beneath therefore disarming him?
Commander: Very good! But what if the enemy grabs your foot afterwards?
Jyce: I'm not sure.
Neth: You better hope he has shoe polish!
Soldiers laugh at Jyce. Commander looks harshly at Neth.
Neth flicks his head to the side waving his red split hair out of his face and looks at Jyce mockingly with steel eyes and sharp thin black eyebrows.
Commander: Jyce, I'd like to see you after class please.
--

(act 2:scene 2-the burden)
(characters: Jyce, Commander)
Jyce and Commander are in the tent
Commander: Jyce, I’ll get right to the point. You are going to be at the front of the line in battle. This is because you have a special power that was given to you as a boy that only you know how to activate. Your parents left me in charge of explaining this to you. This power makes you extremely powerful in combat and it is said that when you are put in a desperate situation, your enemies cease to stand. Part of your training tommorow is to enhance these powers by way of a machine that Dr. Kiop has recently built. It is perfectly safe.
Jyce: But if I don’t remember, how can I activate this... “power” of mine?
Commander: We are sure that you will know it as instinct and with the training tommorow you will be able to control it like you control your hand.
Jyce: How are you sure? Are you saying that you will put me out on the battlefield assuming that I will become some destructing machine?
Commander: Dr. Kiop has evidence that proves this is what you are capable of. If you are thinking about the enemy, then you are thinking wrong. They will kill many people if allowed to and we must stop them before they can ki- murder anymore than they already have.
Jyce looks down, thinking about this.
Jyce: But I don’t want to murder anyone!
Commander: If not you then who? You are the Hiyeten’s only hope, Jyce! Millions of lives are at risk here!
Jyce looks away from the Commander at the wall of the tent
Cammander: ...What if you don’t do this. Our armies are likely to be overcome and THEY will murder the people, the Hiyeten, YOUR family! The fact that our enemies want to do that makes them less than human. The fact that we protect our families and friends make us the soul of humanity. Kill or be killed.
Jyce: .....only if neccisary. I will only kill if I have to.
Jyce gets up and leaves the tent
--

(act 2: scene 3-first blood)
(characters: Jyce, Commander, Man)
red alarms start to go off
Jyce wakes up from his bed in a daze
A loud voice through a speaker somewhere in the room says
Voice: All soldiers prepare for battle. There is a resistance movement in sector 04A. Report to your assigned stations. Repeat- All soldiers pre-
Jyce got out of bed and into his grey uniform that looked somewhat like a jumpsuit. He straps on his sword across his back, exits his room and runs down the halls flashing red to the open garage where he is supposed to load into one of the armored vans used for transportation. After getting into the back of the truck they head towards sector 04A while being breifed on their mission.
Commander: This is your first mission. Lets make it a good one. Nobody get killed.
The van arrives in sector 04A and the troops unload. There are already people fighting on the battlefield, but as soon as Jyce is visible to the enemy.
Resistance: (many whispers) Jyce!?
The members of the resistance start to back off but continue fighting.
Commander: We’ve got them on the run, nows the time to finish them off!
Jyce starts to run towards the enemy, but in seeing many people being killed as they are retreating, he hesitates.
A large man in a giant cloak jumps out of the center of the resistance member, taking out a couple soldiers with his sword as he landed softly.
Man: Jyce, what have they done to you?
Jyce: What? I don’t understand.
Man: I see. Our hope may be lost now. So I am forced to fight you now, for it is fate.
Jyce: Fight? Why?
Man: Isn’t that what you came here to do?
Jyce: ...I...
The man draws his sword and attacks Jyce from overhead
Jyce quickly draws his sword to block the man’s sword, but barely makes it and is pushed back a few inches while his shoes scrape against the semi-metal ground.
Man: Heh, you haven’t lost it yet
The man takes his hands left hand and holds Jyces swords while swings his sword around, swinging at Jyces legs.
Jyce lets go of his sword and jumps above the dangerous blade. He then kicks the open side that the man had left open after his swing.
As Jyce is coming down from his jump, the man twists the sword so the handle is pointed up towards Jyces chin and slams his head back. Then the man kicks Jyces chest and Jyce goes flying back 5 or so feet.
Jyce: ugh.....
Jyce blacks out for a moment
Within this moment, Jyce sees a flat glossy object, just like the “crystal” he remembered after he woke up. But this time it was glowing with a blue radiance that seemed to become brighter and brighter until he came out of his black trance. Staring up in the grey sky, the elements of where he was and his situation never came to him. Mindlessly he stood up and noticed a familiar face. The man, somewhat old and very muscular, chuckling with blood driping down his lip. He unconciously knew this was the enemy and felt a surge of power fill him. Everything started to slow down around him and he felt excelerated.
Man: Heh, heh, I knew this would happen. At least it isn’t someone else.
The man kneels down with his sword in hand and starts to pray.
Jyce, overwhelm with power and unconciousness, rushes towards the man and slices his sword through the top of the man’s body, instantly killing him with blood everywhere. Looking around, the tips of Jyces hair dripping red in front of his eyes only contributed to the red of bodies lying around the dark grey battlefield.

(act 2: scene 4-confusion)
(characters: Jyce, Voice 1, Voice 2)
Black. Red. Grey. Red. Black.
Sirens. Murmurs. Shouts. Murmurs. Sirens.
Cold. Dull. Mute. Dull. Cold.
Wet. Blood. Lemon. Blood. Wet.
Jyce came concious. He blacked out again.
He could barely make out words.
Voice 1: ....damage.......chin...........
Voice 2: ...........jyce?.........out....
Voice 1: .......make it........death.....
Voice 2: ...............we won...........
Voice 3: ...alright.............week.....
Voice 1: ...........memory...............
Voice 2: ......sure?...........trouble...
Voice 3: ...leave.......not..............
Voice 4: ............................shit

(act 3: scene 1-scar)
(characters: Jyce, Cielque, Sirip, Dr. Kiop)
His mind slowly ravels back into consciousness as Jyce becomes aware of his existance. The roof of his room appears in front of him, and slowly things come into place within his mind. What happened back then. An unfamiliar pain surges to conciousness up the right side of his his right cheek, skipping his eye, and continuing on his eyebrow to the middle of his forehead.
Jyce sits up and feels the rough scab that has been wedged into his face. His mind goes from event to event recolecting that he had killed that huge mysterious man.
Sirip walks into the room with a tray of food and when she notices Jyce she is shocked
Sirip: Jyce, you’re awake!
Jyce nods
Sirip: Are you alright? I brought you some breakfast, here.
Jyce: Thank you.
Sirip: I’ll tell you’re father and the doctor that you’ve awoken.
Sirip leaves the room and there is silence once more.
Jyce eats the breakfast, still dazed.
After a couple minutes the doctor, Sirip and Cielque walk in.
Dr. Kiop: Jyce, how are you doing? You took quite a scar there. Now that you’re awake we can remove it.
Cielque: Jyce I’m so glad you recovered.
As Dr. Kiop moves towards Jyce with an instrument in his hand to remove the scare Jyce interupts him.
Jyce: Wait. Leave the scar.
Dr. Kiop: Why? It will curse you with memories of the other day.
Jyce: Sins must not be repeated.
Cielque: Jyce... Dr. Kiop, let him be.
Dr. Kiop backs off and Cielque steps towards the bed
Cielque: Jyce, back there you did marvelous. We had many losses but in the end you won our battle. But there is still a war. What you did was not a sin, you led our troops to victory with your triumphant acts-
Jyce: Murder is always a sin.
Cielque: Eh... well keep the scar then. I’m sure one of these days you’ll change your mind. Anyway, thank you for your help in fighting this battle and I hope that the battles to come are just as successful.
Jyce: Blood will only bring blood.
Cielque: Wha... Jyce, what are you talking about.
Jyce: Father, I killed someone. With my two hands I killed someone. He didn’t even resist when I killed him.
Sirip: Jyce, please, get some rest. Don’t think about it. Now Cielque, I know you have work to do, and Dr. Kiop, there are patients from the battle waiting for you. Jyce, please rest and try to calm yourself.
Jyce: Father, could I speak to you for a moment.
Sirip and Dr. Kiop leave the room.
Jyce: While before I killed that man I saw... a glowing crystal, or something similiar.
Cielque: It was probably your sword gleaming in the light.
Jyce: But it was different! Like... glass.
Cielque: Hmmm... I don’t know what it is.
Cielque leaves the room and Jyce falls back into his bed gazing off into the roof of his room.
--

(act 3: scene 2-invasion)
(characters: Jyce, Soldiers, Commander)
Its lunchtime and Jyce sits at a table alone
Neth walks over to the table with his tray
Neth: Well, well, well. How is the sleeping beast.
Jyce just continues to eat giving no reaction
Neth: I just want you to know that two of my friends died on the front line... BEFORE you “saved out troops.”
Jyce continues to eat
Neth flinches
Neth: For the love of a country, or the love of mankind, we are willing to fight. But justice is lost in war. Death may arrive from enemy or ally. Trust a stranger and your fate will be lead to deadly consequences.
Neth exits
A crackly voice comes over a loudspeaker
Voice: All soldiers report to the Mission Breifing Amphitheater
Everyone in the hall returns their trays and used plates to the counters and headed off towards the large 3/4ths circle room.
Once there Jyce sat down in the upper right section of the “theater”
The Commander appeared at the front on a podium. A small microphone is attached to his ear and is swung down towards his mouth. A large table is to the left of him.
Commander: Our king has made an important desicion in our next operation. One of our spies has found out where the main base is located; in district 11B. We are to take out the main base of the rebels.
A 3D map of the city grows out of the top of the table. The map is all blue except for a red, large building that appears on the x axis of 11 and the y axis of B.
Commander: This cathedral, the 5th largest of the world, is where the rebels conduct their main headquarters. It is heavily guarded, but also heavily disguised. All the “civilians” located in front of the cathedral are actual heavily armed guards. Our king has designed a plan to get in and destroy their leader. Our mission will carry out like so:
A. Troop “Blindfold” will begin to attack the front of the cathedral at 0300 hours, from now own known as “Hades”
B. Troop “Mouse,” consisting of 4 specialized soldiers, will sneak in through an alley located behind “Hades” at 0350. Any witnesses are to be shot on site without hesitation.
C. Troop “Rat” is to back up “Mouse”
D. “Mouse” infiltrates the building and makes their way to the leader’s quarters where they will proceed to set up timed explosives for 5 minutes.
E. “Mouse” then will retreat. If problems are found with the explosives, “Mouse” will then proceed to kill the leader of the terrorist group personally.
F. “Mouse,” “Rat,” and “Blindfold” retreat from Hades AFTER explosion is confirmed.
Any questions?
Jyce: What if there are civilian witnesses?
Commander: Any witnesses are to be shot on site without hesitation. Any other questions? None? The operation will commense in two days. Get some rest. Dismissed.
The soldiers exit
When Jyce walks up to his door he finds a note taped onto it saying “Rat.”
--

(act 3: scene 3-theater)
(characters: Jyce, Soldiers, Commander, Vel)
In another truck, headed towards a different place, Jyce waits patiently.
After arriving three blocks from where the fight has already started with “Blindfold,” team “Rat” loads out of the van and quickly but silently make their way to the block of buildings right behind the cathedral.
Here they were to stay until “Mouse” had been confirmed succeeded.
Time passed slowly until an explosion is heard. Then the commander motions to move towards the cathedral
Jyce: Did “Mouse” fail?
Commander: Secret orders, there has been a change in the plan.
Jyce shuts up and follows the commander running in the way he was trained.
The back door to the cathedral had been shot open by “Mouse” and the floor was covered with blood.
Jyce and team “Rat” made their way to the middle of the first floor where there was a giant stairway to the second floor. But when they got there a huge explosion had replaced where half of the stairs had been.
Jyce thought to himself that “Mouse” must have tried to sneak up that side of the stairs and somehow the explosion had gone off.
Team “Rat” traveled up the right side of the stairs up to the second floor of the huge cathedral.
When they emerged into the 2nd floor they were showed with coloured orange light from the stained glass interacting with the rising sun.
Then shots rang out from the balconies of the third floor.
All members of team “Rat” fell to ground except for Jyce.
Looking around nervously, wondering why he wasn’t shot, Jyce notices a person standing at the podium of the chapel.
As the person raises his hands up to the stained ceiling he says
Vel: Welcome, Jyce...
--

(act 3: scene 4-mirror)
(characters: Jyce, Vel)
Jyce: Who are you?!
Vel: My name is Vel, leader of the rebellion that goes by the name of “Mandate’s Revenge”, but the more important question is who are you.
Jyce: My name is Jyce, I am the son of the King and Queen of the Hiyeten family.
Vel: Are you sure?
Jyce: Wha--- what do you mean?!
Vel draws a long thin sword, glowing just like the crystals in Jyce’s dreams.
Jyce: That glow....
Vel: I see the brainwashing wasn’t completely successful, there still is hope.
Jyce: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?? ANSWER ME!
Vel jumps from his place on the podium and makes a downward strike on Jyce. Jyce blocks but stumbles backwards.
Vel: Heh, and you’re weaker too.
Jyce: WHO AM I!? WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ME?!
Vel: Shut up and fight. Thats what you came here for isn’t it?
Jyce: No, I came here to serve my mother and father’s wishes.
Vel: Ha, mother... father... is that what they made you call them?
Vel strikes from the right side and Jyce blocks again. While holding his sword in his left hand Vel twists his body around to the left and punches Jyce’s face with his right hand. Jyce flies to the right and is stunned for a moment.
Vel: Theres only one way for you to escape the fog.
Vel walks over to Jyce, laying on the ground in a daze. Then Vel takes his glowing sword and thrusts its directly into Jyce’s lower left torso.
But instead of pain Jyce feels like he’s filled with static and sand.
Then memories started to hit him, like being pounded with hail. Memories of playing with his mother, memories of fighting with Vel at family meetings, memories of Miken always looking up to him, memories of the revolution, and then came the memories of his father who had raized him learning the martial arts. And as Jyce realizes the face of his father, he is shocked, diguested, and horrified at what he has done. His father was the same man that Jyce fought in his first battle after being brainwashed. His father was the one that Jyce killed with the swing of his blade in a furried rampage.
Then the second realization comes to Jyce. The crystal. The crystal that was stuck deep in his lower chest delivering all the messeges inside of his head. This crystal had supplied his family with an unknown power for generations. It could take any form the master of it wished, yet it took a long process to do.
His fake parents. They had brainwashed him, and used him for their own purposes; to fight against his own family and friends. They were responsible for his father’s death. They killed him through his very own hands.
As he blanked out, Jyce’s last thought is disgust of his dirty deeds.
--

And the rest was not done.
