Westwood is a culture of pirates and a center-less society that abides by a self propagation of rules. What was once the Rocky Mountain range is now a set of islands that spread for miles upon miles. Each island has its own town and mayor, but none are part of a full government. Every person of Westwood lives according to an informal set of rules that maintained through social pressure.

Most of the islands are involved in some sort of smuggling, black market, drugs or prostitution rings. Various cultures have divided and congregated into their own areas, and occasionally mafia fights break out between the islands.

Piracy is common and part of life around Westwood. The pirates are equipped with various dangerous weapons that make them people not to be messed with, but they still abide the Westwood Code. If broken, it is required of other pirate groups and islands to shun and even attack the violators.

A large amount of culture and entertainment comes out of Westwood. It is usually shunned by other cultures although fashion and video/music entertainment that originates in Westwood flows into the cultures around the world (excluding Zao).

Body mods and cyborg parts are plentiful and heavily researched since there are no surveillance and restrictions on some of the islands. Practice is found in almost all major towns. Many scientific improvements have been founded out of the culture on these islands.

One of the most famous pirates to sail Westwood is an A.I. named Metallus. Being able to inherently think faster and be stronger than normal humans, Metallus is widely feared and respected among the pirate community, as well as the Mafias on the islands. But because of Mag-weapons, he was forced to retire for a few years until he and a team of scientists found ways to fight the mag-technology. The knowledge has never leaked but is highly desired by all people, if not for personal gain then to sell to the SafeNet government.
